My next stop on my tour was Battery Park where I'd take a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. On the way I caught sight of the bull on Wall Street. It's hard to take a picture from a moving bus, so this is the best I got.
When I first walked into Battery Park, I saw this sculpture.
I stared at it for awhile trying to figure out if it was sculpted to look smashed or if it had indeed been smashed. In the front was a plaque that explained it all. This was a sculpture in the middle of the World Trade Center and this was the damage it sustained in the fall of the towers. Because it survived, they placed it in Battery Park. Read the plaque. It's worth the time and eye strain.
Here was a panhandler working the line. I tried to pretend that I was taking a picture of the sculpture behind him but I'm not sure I fooled him.
Here's a sculpture representing all the immigrants that entered the country here.
And here's the Statue of Liberty. Starting at a distance and getting closer.
The view from Battery Park.
And here are some views from Liberty Island.
And here's the Jeff pleasing self portrait. Once again, a terrible picture!
Here's the huge flagpole that lives on the Island.
And finally, a picture of the whole Island.
