This is a statue right in the middle of a traffic roundabout called Columbus Circle. Guess who that is on the top of the statue...
You guessed it! Christopher Columbus.
These next two pictures were taken around Columbus Circle.
I discovered on my way home that right behind this statue was an entrance to Central Park. I took a short walk there but I didn't take any pictures, so this is the closest we'll get!
As I was walking, after awhile, I realized by the addresses that I had passed the temple. I didn't know how I could miss it, usually they stand out quite a bit. So I turned around and looked up. This was what I saw.
So I back tracked and found it. I was able to go in and do initiatories. It really was quite a contrast to go from the loud, busy streets of New York City into the quiet peace of the temple. Jeff had heard that they had worked really hard on sound proofing the temple so you couldn't hear street noise. I didn't think about it while I was there, because I'm used to temples being quiet. But that night in our hotel room, while listening to the sound of traffic and sirens outside my window, the contrast became quite amazing. It's also amazing that you can enter any temple anywhere in the world and the people inside are always happy to see you. It's a place where anyone can feel at home.
On my way out, I snapped this last photo.
